My Aunt Kelly recently gave birth to her first child, Karly.
I was so excited and still am excited about it—don’t get me wrong. But labor is
a LONGGGGGG process. I thought “Oh we’re going in at midnight, Karly should be
here by morning!” Man, was I wrong.
We arrived at the hospital around midnight. My aunt and
uncle were in the truck ahead of us and my mom, grandparents, other aunt, and I
were in my grandparents SUV behind them. Of course, after we got there, we were
so excited that we couldn’t sleep. (There was also nothing to sleep on by the
way… so I pushed two chairs together and made do with that). Anyways, we stayed
up talking and watching TV, going on the internet to try to keep ourselves
busy.
When 6:30 AM rolled around we were starving and didn’t want
hospital food so we went down the road to Denny’s. I practically fell asleep at
the table. I had 3 cups of coffee—I NEVER drink coffee either. So when we got
back to the hospital, Sue Lanpher, a family friend, showed up with her camera
to get plenty of pictures. My grandmother came out of the room that my aunt was
in and told us that they had started giving her Pitocin to speed up the
birthing process. After a few hours she was only 5 cm dilated, even after they
induced her. She wasn’t making any progress.
To pass time, my brother showed up when my dad went into
work since he works right in the hospital, so we walked around and got free
food with my dad’s employee card. The anticipation was killing me so I can only
imagine what it was doing to my aunt.
9:33 PM rolled around on February 17 and little Karly was
finally born! It was one of the most memorable days of my life and I’m so happy
I got to experience it.
She's so precious oh my goodness. I'm so happy for your aunt and so happy that you have a new baby cousin to take shopping when she's older <3 <3 :))
ReplyDeleteMikaela! This is so cute; she is absolutely precious! :) Denny's would taste great right now.... I love how easy it is to hear your voice in your blog, good job!
ReplyDeleteAwww, so adorable! I loved your wording in this, it flowed naturally.
ReplyDeleteShe's beautiful! I'm so happy for your entire family! :) Sounds like it was a very exhausting but well worth night of not much sleep!
ReplyDeleteI agree. She's cute, adorable, and utterly edible. (Probably no one said they could eat her up, but I could. Put some peanutbutter right on her...)
ReplyDeleteAnyhu, I also agree that your voice comes through here. I can feel your exhaustion just by the way you chronicled everything you did to keep yourself awake. Denny's is always a good call but three cups of coffee? Never again, do you hear me?!
Keep up the good blogging Mikaela!
